Sticky Notes, Tape and Ribbon

The finishing things: washi tape, sticky notes, scissors, ribbon and the odds and ends that turn a plain envelope or a wrapped box into something considered. Most of it costs under ten dollars.

Girl of All Work makes up the largest part of it. Their die-cut sticky notes come shaped as dogs, lions, foxes and gingerbread houses, and the list pads and Tales notepads are small enough to live in a planner or a book. The die-cut notes are pads of fifty sheets of uncoated paper, which takes a pencil properly rather than smearing.

The washi tape and Jumble Washi Stickers come from Pipsticks, in designs that run from woodland animals to cats, dogs and Halloween. They are the cheapest way to add something to a page or a parcel, and they sit flat enough to write over once applied. The Carta ribbons are the smarter option: loose-weave cotton wound onto a wooden paddle in ten-yard lengths, in a range of colours, for anyone wrapping properly. Carta's scissors, made in Italy, run from a small pair up to the large ones at the top of the collection.

The Chiikawa scissors are the fun ones, with a mascot engraved on the blade and a safety cover cap so they can go in a pencil case without cutting anything en route.

There is also the Large Kerosene Brass Fluted Lighter, which is solid brass with a brushed finish and a removable insert for refuelling and changing the wick and flint, so it is repairable rather than disposable.

If you are putting a parcel together, the useful combination is ribbon, tape and a stamp pack, which between them cover the wrapping, the sealing and the finishing.
