This is our own ornament collection, made in small numbers and added to each year rather than replaced. Everything in it is either made here or made with a maker we work with directly, and none of it is bought in from a catalogue.
The Silk Fox and Silk Horse are the centre of it, and they sit alongside the wider ornament range. Both are handmade in plush with a ribbon hang tag and a small brass oval tag carrying the shop's name, and they are light enough to hang on a tree and good enough to sit on a shelf or a mantelpiece instead. The fox comes in one colourway and the horse in maroon and blue, and together they are the pieces people come back for year after year. They are also the two that sell fastest, which is why they tend to go first.
The Velvet Strawberry is the larger piece in the collection, made in velvet with a deep colour and a soft body. It is one of the most photographed things we make and one of the ones most often bought as a gift rather than kept, which is why we make more of it than of anything else here.
The velvet mushrooms come in a run of colours including deep purple and bright green. They are small, weighted to sit rather than hang, and they look better in a group of two or three than on their own, which is how most people buy them.
Elena Medina's paper mache hearts are the odd one out. Each is handmade, hand painted and glittered, and each carries a Swiss velvet loop for hanging, so the piece that arrives will be similar to the photograph rather than identical to it. That is true of everything in this collection, because it is all made by hand.
If you are starting an ornament collection, the useful approach is one a year. Between the silk pieces, the strawberries and the mushrooms there is enough variation to build a set that looks collected rather than bought in one go.
