Stuffed Animals

This is the plush range, from a small baby dinosaur just over twenty dollars up to the largest teddy bears around a hundred and ten, with most of it sitting between thirty and forty-five. Roughly thirty of them are Steiff, the German company that has been making soft toys since the nineteenth century, and the rest come from Bon Ton Toys and the designers we buy from directly.

Sizes run from about six inches to a genuine fifty-one. Gin the snake is the long one at 51 inches, and the small end is built for babies: Flaps Baby Penguin at six inches and Joshi at six, both sized for a small hand to hold. Most of the animals in between sit around ten to twelve inches, which is the size that suits a bed or a car seat.

Steiff makes them differently from most plush on the market. The bodies carry small bean bags, so an animal can sit up on its own or stand rather than flopping forward, and each one arrives with a stainless-steel button in its ear. That button is the brand's mark, and it is worth knowing about if you are buying plush as a gift for an adult, because some of these become collectible.

The characters are named, and the names matter to children. Pedro Raccoon, Bodo Monkey, Elna Baby Elephant, Benji Red Panda, Samu the Magic Dragon, Chip Capybara, Sissi the piglet and Boris the Spooky Bat. There is a dinosaur, a unicorn, a snail, a crocodile and a penguin, so if a child has asked for something specific, it is worth searching the name.

For babies, choose the smaller sizes and the machine washable ones, since both are standard across most of the range. For older children and adults, the bigger Steiff pieces and the Miffy range are the ones people keep. Either way, a soft toy is one of the few presents that works at almost any age.

We keep these in stock and add new characters through the year. If there is a particular animal you are looking for that you are not able to find on the website, reach out to us and we will be glad to help.
