Lighters and Decorative Matches
Designer lighters and boxes of matches, mostly at a few dollars a box, with the brass lighters at the top. The match boxes are bought in threes and fours rather than singly, and they are the cheapest way to make a candle look considered.
The Kerosene lighter is the piece that sells most in the whole shop. It is solid brass with a brushed finish, about two inches square, and it runs on standard lighter fluid, so it refills rather than being thrown away. The bottom plate unscrews so the wick and the cotton filling can be replaced, which means it is repairable indefinitely rather than disposable. There is also a larger fluted version at the top of the range.
The matches come from HomArt and there are more than a dozen designs. Wild Horses, Italian Dogs, Pigeons and Parakeets, Orchard Apples, Monarchs, Butterfly, Prairie, Witch and Owl, Pumpkin Heads, Cigars, El Sol and La Luna, Fall Mushrooms and Ssssnakes between them cover most of the year, including the autumn designs that sell through October. Each box carries a design on the front and coordinating coloured tips on the matches, which is what makes them look deliberate rather than like a utility.
They are the natural pairing for a candle. A box of matches and a candle is a complete gift that costs very little, and the matches are the part that lasts after the wax is gone.
The larger Kerosene in fluted brass does the same job for a fireplace or a mantelpiece, and it looks better as the brass dulls.
One practical note: the match boxes ship to continental US addresses only, under the rules on flammable goods. The lighters are not affected by that restriction.
We keep the range in stock, and new match designs arrive through the year. If there is a particular design you are looking for that you are not able to find on the website, reach out to us and we will be glad to help.
