Leesburg Named One of America’s Best Small Cities — and We’re Excited to Call It Home

We already had plenty of reasons to love Leesburg. Now there’s another one.

WalletHub has named Leesburg the No. 13 Best Small City in America for 2026, ranking more than 1,300 communities across the country. The study looked at 45 measures across affordability, economic health, education and health, quality of life, and safety. Leesburg ranked especially well for education and health.

For anyone who spends time here, the recognition isn’t particularly surprising.

Leesburg has managed to hold onto something a lot of growing communities lose: a real downtown. You can park the car, walk the streets, stop for lunch, browse independent shops and actually spend an afternoon somewhere rather than driving from one shopping center to the next.

That’s a big part of why Every Little Something moved into town.

Every Little Something Comes to Leesburg

Our new Leesburg shop brings Every Little Something’s mix of fine gifts, stationery, paper goods, kids’ activities and screen-free finds to the heart of historic downtown.

We started with our shop in Middleburg and have always believed that shopping should feel more personal. There should still be places where you can walk through the door without knowing exactly what you’re looking for, pick something up, talk to someone and find something you wouldn’t have discovered scrolling online.

Leesburg is a natural place to build on that idea.

It has the historic character we love, but it’s also connected to one of the largest and fastest-moving regions in the country. Downtown Leesburg is easily accessible from Northern Virginia and the Washington, D.C. region while still feeling distinctly its own.

And independent retail is already part of the town’s identity. Northern Virginia Magazine noted that Leesburg has also recently received national recognition for its wineries, antiquing and independent shopping.

A Small City With a Lot Going On

WalletHub’s ranking is based on more than charm. Its analysis compared 1,318 cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000, examining everything from housing and schools to restaurants, employment, health and public safety. WalletHub

Leesburg finished No. 24 nationally in education and health and No. 103 in safety. Nearby Ashburn also made the list at No. 35.

Those numbers reinforce what attracted us to Leesburg in the first place: this is a community with enough scale to keep growing, but still small enough for local businesses and local relationships to matter.

That balance matters to us.

Every Little Something is a family business. Our stores are intentionally built around tangible things — beautiful paper, thoughtful gifts, activities for kids and adults, and products that give people a reason to put down a screen for a while.

A downtown where people still walk, browse, meet friends and support independent businesses is exactly where we want to be.

So yes, No. 13 in America sounds pretty good to us.

We’re excited to be part of what comes next for Leesburg.
