Upstate Handblown Glass
Handblown glass made in New York, in a small range of three pieces. Each one is blown by hand rather than moulded, so what arrives is a variation on the photograph rather than an exact copy.
The catch-all dishes are the more versatile of the two shapes. Each is pulled in several directions while the glass is still soft, which gives it an organic, slightly irregular form rather than a symmetrical bowl. At roughly five by three inches they work for rings and jewellery by a bed, for olives and nuts on a table, or simply as something to look at. They come in Fume, which is a warm mix of flamingo pink, tobacco tan, sunshine yellow and amber brown, and in Iris.
The crinkle cups are highball glasses with a wavy, undulating wall. The shape is not decoration added afterwards, it is a record of the blowing process itself, which is what gives each glass its slightly different profile. They hold a full highball and they look better in a pair than alone.
Both are hand wash only, and both should be kept away from boiling water and the microwave.
The appeal of handblown glass is that it shows its making. A pressed glass is identical to the next one, and a handblown piece is not, which is the whole reason to buy it. These also work as gifts because they are useful as well as decorative, and a set given together will never be matched but will always sit together.
We keep the range in stock as pieces come in. If there is a particular colour or shape you are looking for that you are not able to find on the website, reach out to us and we will be glad to help.
They also sit well together. The catch-all dish and the crinkle cup are blown in the same palette, so a set given as a pair reads as deliberate rather than as two separate objects. Fume runs warm, with pink and amber through it, and Iris runs cooler, which makes them easy to match to a room or to contrast against one.
Hand wash in warm water and dry them upright to keep the glass clear rather than cloudy over time.
