Letter and Initial Ornaments
Hand-beaded velvet star ornaments, made in gold and blue with a ribbon for hanging. They are fifteen dollars each and they sit alongside our silk keepsake ornaments as part of our own collection.
Each star is hand beaded and finished with ribbon, so it can hang on a tree, from a stocking, or on a wrapped parcel in place of a bow. The velvet is double sided, which matters more than it sounds: a star that turns as it hangs should look finished from both faces, and most ornaments are not.
The hardware differs between the two colourways. The gold star carries gold hardware and a gold ribbon, and the blue carries silver hardware with a wine ribbon, so the two can be hung together without either looking like the odd one out.
Because each one is beaded by hand, no two sit quite the same. The beadwork shifts slightly, which is what gives a handmade ornament its particular quality rather than a fault in it.
They work best given as a set of initials rather than a single star. Two or three across a mantelpiece or down a length of ribbon reads as intentional, and because the letters are built from beads rather than printed, they suit a shelf as well as a tree.
These are part of the Every Little Something ornament collection, which we add to each year rather than replace, and the silk fox and silk horse sit in the same family.
We make these in small batches. If there is a particular letter or colour you are looking for that you are not able to find on the website, reach out to us and we will be glad to help.
There is also a practical argument for giving one. A single initial is personal without being presumptuous, and it works for a child, a grandparent or a colleague, which is more than can be said for most ornaments. Two of them, one for each initial in a household, is how a lot of them leave the shop.
