Father's Day Gifts

Presents for the people who are hardest to buy for, grouped so you can see the whole range at once. It leans towards things that get used rather than things that get put away: glassware, books, pens and a little brass. Most of it falls between twenty-five and a hundred dollars, with the Skultuna pieces at the top.

The bar is the strongest part of it. Vagabond House's hatched glass double old-fashioned tumblers are the piece that sells most: a lowball glass with a hatched pattern and a pewter base engraved with a horse, measuring about three and three quarter inches across. Pair a set with a decanter or the silver-plated mint julep cup from Corbell, which is made in England, stands four and a half inches tall and carries a bead edge around the rim and base.

For the books, the cocktail range is deep. Whiskey Cocktails covers forty recipes with a chapter on the classics before moving into variations. Italy Cocktails runs to over a hundred recipes with bartender profiles. Mezcal and Tequila Cocktails covers more than sixty drinks. Slow Drinks is the odd one out and the most interesting: it is organised by season and teaches how to turn foraged or shop-bought botanical ingredients into meads, country wines, sodas and tinctures.

Pens and notebooks cover the desk side. The Caran d'Ache 849 has a hexagonal aluminium body finished by scraping stones against it, which gives it a rough, matte surface, and the roller version takes a liquid ink cartridge. Leuchtturm1917's A5 hardcover notebooks are thread bound so they open flat, with numbered pages, two page markers, a gusseted pocket and eight perforated sheets, and the Drehgriffel ballpoint is turned from aluminium and brass and is document proof.

The brass is where the gifts are. Skultuna has been casting in Sweden since 1607, and their range here includes the Lisa Larson animal pieces in polished brass, a lidded box with a rabbit on top, the brass oval tray, the Barbara bottle opener and the Flora candlesnuffer, whose handle, guard and dome echo the stem, petal and corona of a daffodil.

If you are stuck, the safest route is a bottle of something and one of the bar pieces rather than a single larger gift.

We keep the range in stock. If there is something particular you are looking for that you are not able to find on the website, reach out to us and we will be glad to help.
